North Korea Rejects Dialogue with South Korea
This statement was reported by state-run media on Monday.
Kim Yo Jong, who holds the position of deputy department director in the Publicity and Information Department of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), accused the administration of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung of maintaining a hostile stance, despite its attempts to reach out.
According to a news agency she criticized the South Korean government's continued focus on the South Korea-US alliance, which she claimed perpetuates tensions between the two nations.
"Looking at (the time) since Lee Jae-myung took office…(he) is no different from his predecessor in blindly adhering to the South Korea-US alliance and pursuing confrontation with us," Kim Yo Jong stated.
She further underlined that Pyongyang's position has not changed, regardless of any overtures from Seoul.
"We are not interested in any policy or proposal put forward by Seoul, and there will be no chance of us sitting down with South Korea for any discussions," she reiterated.
In response to North Korea's rejection, South Korea addressed the situation by acknowledging the deep divide between the two nations.
A senior presidential official was quoted by a media outlet as saying, "We have witnessed the high wall of distrust between the two Koreas due to years of hostility and confrontation."
The official then emphasized that the South Korean government would continue to take necessary steps to promote peace and avoid further conflict on the Korean Peninsula, adhering to the Lee Jae-myung administration's principle of establishing a peaceful state where there is no need for conflict.
