Russia, N. Korea Agree to Expand Military Cooperation in Pyongyang Talks
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the current state of defense ties and discussed future areas of collaboration, with an emphasis on establishing a more structured long-term framework for military engagement.
Belousov said both countries had agreed to place their defense cooperation on a more stable, long-term footing, adding that preparations were underway for a multi-year cooperation plan.
“We have agreed with the Ministry of Defense of the DPRK to place military cooperation on a stable, long-term basis. We are ready to sign this year the Plan for Russian-Korean Military Interaction for the period 2027–2031,” he said.
He described the visit as a significant diplomatic occasion and expressed appreciation for the reception given to the Russian delegation in North Korea, noting that bilateral relations are currently at a notably high level.
“Russian-Korean interstate relations are at an unprecedentedly high level,” he said, adding that further high-level exchanges are expected across multiple sectors in the coming period.
Belousov also highlighted North Korea’s invitation for Russian military representatives to attend the opening of a museum and memorial complex dedicated to the country’s military personnel who served abroad, describing it as a symbolic gesture reflecting growing ties.
He said Moscow values the invitation highly and considers participation in the event an important diplomatic honor.
