North Korea condemns US raid on Venezuela

(MENAFN) North Korea strongly denounced the recent US military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, calling Washington’s actions a “flagrant violation” of international law and an example of its “rogue and bestial nature,” according to a state-run news agency.

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Pyongyang recognizes the severity of the situation in Venezuela, which it attributes to US “coercive actions,” and warned that the resulting instability could further destabilize the region.

“This incident serves as yet another example of the rogue and bestial nature of the United States, a trait the international community has witnessed countless times over the years,” the ministry said, describing the operation as “hegemonic” and a serious infringement on Venezuela’s sovereignty. The statement emphasized that the strike violates the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and territorial integrity.

Pyongyang called on the international community to speak out against the US and take the Venezuelan crisis seriously, highlighting its potential impact on regional stability and global relations.

Venezuela reported on Saturday that US forces attacked both civilian and military sites across multiple states before declaring a national emergency. President Donald Trump confirmed the “large-scale” strike and stated that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been captured and flown to New York, where they are now held in a detention center.

The operation follows months of increasing US pressure on Maduro, whom Washington accuses of drug trafficking—a charge he denies—while Maduro has expressed willingness to engage in talks.
