N. Korea Launches 4th Missile Test in April

(MENAFN) North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea on Sunday, drawing swift condemnation from South Korea and Japan in what marks Pyongyang's seventh missile test this year alone.

Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirmed the missiles were fired from the Sinpho area at approximately 6:10 a.m. local time (2110 GMT Saturday), traveling roughly 140 kilometers (87 miles) before landing in the sea, a South Korean news agency reported. The launch is also Pyongyang's fourth missile test within the month of April — a striking escalation in frequency.

"Our military is closely monitoring North Korea's various movements under a robust South Korea-US combined defense posture and maintains the capabilities and posture to respond to any provocation in an overwhelming manner," the JCS said.

Seoul added that South Korean and US intelligence services had jointly tracked the launch and shared relevant findings with Japan in a coordinated response.

Tokyo's Defense Ministry confirmed the launch, noting the projectiles appeared to have landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone, with no damage recorded on Japanese soil, according to Japanese media.

South Korea formally denounced the test as a direct violation of a UN Security Council resolution and demanded Pyongyang immediately cease all further launches. The latest firing follows a similar volley of short-range ballistic missiles on April 8.
